The Role and Key ResponsibilitiesAn exciting opportunity has arisen to join Surrey & Sussex Major Crime Team (MCT). Specialist Crime Command are looking to recruit highly motivated and experienced Detective Constables to work at Eastbourne, Lewes and Worthing to fill several vacancies expected over the next 6 months.
While the role is full time, officers working to reduced hours or with flexible shift patterns will be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Your main responsibility will be to work as a member of the Outside Enquiry Team within Surrey and Sussex MCT dealing with serious and complex crimes - these include Murder, Manslaughter, Gross Negligence and Corporate Manslaughter, and Crimes in Action as well as other investigations allocated by senior management within Surrey Police and Sussex Police. You will work under the direction of the Detective Sergeant Office Manager (OM) and Senior Investigating Officer (SIO)
You will undertake enquiries and tasks throughout Surrey and Sussex and occasionally out of these force areas as directed by a Detective Supervisor. This may include being a case officer, preparing case files and attendance at court.
Skills & Experience- You should be an accredited PIP Level 2 Detective Constable.
- You should be an accredited Tier 2 Witness and Suspect Interviewer.
- You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- You must be a team player with a professional approach and an appreciation of the importance of the work undertaken.
You should have a high degree of resilience.
- You must be prepared to amend your working hours depending on operational requirements. You will work across both forces on occasion as the expectation is that resources are deployed where the demand dictates. We do, however, recognise that our people are balancing demanding careers with commitments and interests outside of work.
- You must have a good working knowledge of NICHE, and the ability to train in the use of HOLMES.
- You must have experience of complex case management through to Crown Court trials
- You should have the ability to interpret information quickly and effectively in order to select the right course of action.
- You will need excellent organisational, planning and prioritising abilities and be able to demonstrate confidence, credibility and resilience together with the ability to work under pressure, taking a methodical approach and meeting competing deadlines.
- Additional specialist skills such as FLO, SCAIDP (or equivalent child abuse investigation), Tier 3 Advanced Witness Interviewer and Advanced Suspect Interviewer qualifications or Tier 5 interview adviser would be advantageous but are not a requirement for this position.
