PC Firearms Trainer

The post-holder will participate in curriculum design, planning, delivery and evaluation of Firearms Training in accordance with legislation, national policing standards, health and safety and force policy.

Ensure compliance with APP-AP, the NPFTC and College of Policing Firearms Training Licence and force policies. Design and Deliver learning and develop interventions in Specialist Tactics and Training to all ranks and grades to the recognised recommended national standards.

What you’ll do

Lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics ensuring that the force values and behavioural expectations are clearly understood and considered by officers and staff in their decision making and actions; reinforcing and influencing them through all interactions and processes. Proactively manage the performance, attendance and wellbeing of students against the required standards to ensure they are dealt with and supported in accordance with the correct policies and procedures.

To research, design and plan a wide spectrum of firearms training for police officers and staff, including bespoke individual development plans, to ensure compliance with national standards, health and safety requirements and force policy. This will include responsibility for the development and delivery of live fire and other significant ‘risk to life’ activity, including health and safety compliant risk assessments and other control measures

To instruct, develop and assess trainers, police officers and staff in the application of these operational tactics to fulfil and comply with national standards and be annually assessed as competent in role, both theory and range assessments.

To ensure that all reports and documents relating to training delivery are stored securely by the most appropriate means in order to comply with the code of ethics and the purpose and values of Cleveland and Durham Police Research, design, plan and deliver training packages for external / partner agencies where appropriate, reviewing existing working practices and making appropriate recommendations in order to promote the Tactical Training Centre training products and assist with income generation measures. This will include responsibility for the development and delivery of live fire and other significant ‘risk to life’ activity

Be responsible for the secure storage and maintenance of the department’s firearms, ammunition and pyrotechnics to ensure compliance with legislation and force policy

Undertake the responsibilities of Range / Exercise Conducting and Safety Officer in accordance with the NPFTC firearms training licence to ensure compliance with the force health and safety processes and procedures by all personnel.

Train to the national common standard for all specific role profiles in which they are operationally deployable

Communicate at all levels and participate in meetings and briefings.

Pass relevant medical and fitness tests (annual requirement)
