What does the Regional School Liaison Co-ordinator role entail?
- Reporting to Head of Community Safety, you will be leading a team of a minimum of 16 police officers and act as a conduit between education, local external agencies including North Wales Police in order to develop a strong regional partnership which meets the needs of both education and crime reduction and prevention.
- Effective contribution within the National team by attending meetings, developing and trialling resources by liaising effectively with the National Coordinators to ensure a Corporate approach to developing an all Wales Police Schools Programme.
All training will be delivered by the current Regional School Liaison Co-ordinator. Driving licence is required.
You will be the first point of contact for officers on a daily basis as well as working with the National team to be involved in the development of and responsible for the production of the nationally and regionally agreed Programme resources, including the progression of local public protection initiatives.
Other duties of the Regional School Liaison Co-ordinator will include, but not be limited to;
- To prepare a training programme for the police officers who will deliver crime reduction/prevention lessons in schools and other relevant educational establishments.
- To liaise with Operational Commanders with a view to assisting in the reduction/prevention of crime through improved education/awareness in children and young people.
- To visit police officers at schools in order to evaluate the quality of their delivery of lesson plans and to ensure that the Programme is meeting the needs of the teaching staff and the pupils.
- To advise the North Wales Police Service on national good practice in both police schools’ liaison and education.
- To assist in the organisation and development of current and future Programme initiatives.
- To provide an input into each School Officers annual performance development review process.
What will I need to be considered for the Regional School Liaison Co-ordinator role?
- Qualified Teacher (e.g. possess BEd, PGCE).
- Experience in managing staff.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience of working as a Teacher with a background in the 5-16 years age group and above to demonstrate a good range of experience and interest in working with young people of all abilities.
- Ideally possess a pastoral background, and/or specialise in personal or social education or a background of working with disengaged pupils.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all levels. The ability to communicate in Welsh to Level 5 of the Force Welsh Language Competency framework is essential (verbal and written).
- Ability to give presentations to individuals, small groups or large audiences when required.
- Ability to prioritise, work under pressure and remain calm and constructive.
- Ability to act decisively with sound judgement, take responsibility and be accountable for decisions.
- Intermediate IT skills, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- The successful candidate must have the ability to work agile and at any location required for the post within the geographical area of the force.
