We are welcoming applications for the role of Accredited Financial Investigator (Not qualified) with Devon & Cornwall Police based at the following location(s): Exeter Police Station 

Salary: Grade 8 - Starts at £42,897 rising by yearly increments to a maximum of £47,712 per annum 
Please note that the above salary is based on working 37 hours per week. If this role is part-time or you are appointed on a part-time basis your salary will be prorated to reflect this. Exceptions to starting salary may apply if you are an existing Devon and Cornwall or Dorset Police Staff employee substantively posted to a role at the same grade.

Type of working arrangement: Hybrid Worker -  Hybrid working is a form of flexible working where workers spend some of their time working remotely (usually, but not necessarily, from home) and some in the employer's workspace.
Hours per week: this role is 37 hours per week. However we welcome applications from individuals wishing to work on a part-time basis and are willing to consider flexible working patterns subject to business need.
Allowances: This role attracts no allowances.
About the role:  

The principal responsibility of the Accredited Financial Investigator is to provide all aspects of financial investigation within the relevant business area (SOCIT/Economic Crime) and support the effective and efficient delivery of force targets on major crime. In particular to:

  • Conducts, supports, and promotes investigations in respect of the Proceeds of Crime Act, Money Laundering, Drugs Offences and Fraud Offences; with the specialist responsibility for cash seizures, confiscations, account monitoring orders, account freezing orders, disclosure orders and restraint under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
  • Provides professional advice as a subject matter expert including relevant legislation, lines of enquiry, risks and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Conduct full financial investigation leading to Confiscation with a view to disrupting or dismantling Organised Crime Groups (OCGs).
  • Conducts financial enquiries in support of both proactive and reactive 'live'
  • Provide and analyse financial intelligence and support of serious & organised crime investigations.
  • Provides all other aspects of financial investigation and support, whether simple or complex, as directed by the tasking process for level 2 and 3 criminal
  • Safeguard and protect vulnerable people through; efficient and effective risk management, investigation, and the identification of pro-active opportunities to disrupt criminality.

This list of duties is not restrictive or exhaustive and the post-holder may be required to carry out duties from time to time that are either commensurate with/or lower than the grade of the post.  In some posts this might include the ad-hoc provision of guidance and informal training of new colleagues.

To assist in ensuring applicants would be able to undertake this function of the role, a medical assessment via a questionnaire will be undertaken and may subsequently require a consultation with the Occupational Health Support Unit.

Essential experience and specialist skills and knowledge:

Have an investigative background (Police, Services, Customs, Revenue, Local Authorities etc), with the following skills and knowledge:

  • Proven experience as an investigator with the ability to plan and manage a criminal investigation.
  • A sound knowledge of investigative procedures
  • Evidence of effective and proactive problem solving
  • Interview Techniques
  • Basic IT Skills
  • Demonstrable higher knowledge of POCA 2002, Fraud Act 2006 and Acquisitive Crimes and search and seizure powers (PACE).
  • Ability to prepare and present case material
  • Familiarity with court environment and procedures
  • Demonstrable numeracy and literacy skills.
