As a Driver Trainer within Organisational Development and Training, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive driver training in line with force requirements. This role is offered on a temporary basis for 12 months.
Key responsibilities:
- Preparation and delivery of presentations to students and other outside organisations.
- Provide comprehensive driver training together with the design and delivery of driver training programmes.
- Ability to assess a student’s needs, devise and deliver appropriate training to cause positive development.
- Possess a good knowledge of the Highway Code, ACPO Guidelines and Road Traffic Legislation.
- Provide training with regard to basic vehicle safety checks.
- Able to assess student’s progress and prepare daily and weekly critiques in respect of the students.
- Undertake general administration tasks and other comparable duties consistent with their core task driver training.
- Monitor and research developments in legislation and police procedure and to update curriculum contents accordingly.
Skills and experience:
- Holds full Driving Licence.
- Significant previous driving experience.
- Approved Driving Instructor Level 5/6 or higher driving instructor qualification e.g. Diploma in Driving Instruction or College of Policing Accredited Driver Trainer.
- Ability to pass Police Drivers Instruction Course (for those who have only passed the approved Driving Instructor Level 5/6 on appointment.
- Ability to work occasional afternoon and evening shifts ending at midnight, which will enable the correct degree of instruction to be provided.
- Required to work 37 hours per week working Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend working. There may also be occasions when the post holder will have to deliver training at other South Yorkshire locations.

Eligibility:
Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
