COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

The Forensic collision investigation network is looking for a part-time communications officer to join our passionate and enthusiastic team. We offer remote working and flexible hours, with occasional travel in England and Wales.

 We are a national team of specialists working to deliver a fair, consistent and enduring, network-led approach to scientific services for Forensic Collision Investigation.

 Our work supports the reduction of serious and fatal collisions on our roads. We work in partnership with forces across England and Wales, improving the quality of collision investigations and the criminal justice outcomes for all.

 The network ensures that Forensic Collision Investigators can rely on and underpin their investigations and evaluations with impartiality, scientific integrity, and confidence, whilst meeting the new statutory requirements for the provision of evidence in critical cases.

 We aim to attract, develop and retain talented people with the right skills and capabilities to help us achieve our goal to improve the quality and timeliness of collision investigations and enable better criminal justice outcomes for all.

  • Home based working with occasional travel across England and Wales and to the FCIN National Testing Centre at Cranfield University.
  • A permanent contract through North Wales Police.
  • Contracted for 2 days per week (flexibility with days)

  • advising and influencing managers and colleagues,
  • using internal communications and digital communication channels and practices to deliver your organisation’s aims and objectives,
  • delivering projects and the ability to construct and deliver difficult messages,
  • developing practical, innovative and creative communications solutions.

Reporting to the Network Development Manager you will:

 

  1. Assist in developing and delivering key messages both internally and externally
  2. Assist in turning complex information into clear and engaging communication.
  3. Develop effective relationships with internal, FCIN network customers and key stakeholders.
  4. Develop and deliver a range of internal and external communication plans and campaigns, identifying the most effective channels, tools and messages to engage audiences and maximise reach.
  5. Create engaging and accessible content appropriate for a range of channels from online and social, to publications and multimedia (such as video and photography).
  6. Build effective evaluation into communication plans and produce regular reports with feedback from surveys. Ensure lessons learnt are applied to the planning and delivery of future projects.
  7. Identify opportunities for more proactive, innovative internal communications, and develop implementation plans to support ideas.
  8. Create, edit and publish digital content e.g. FCIN newsletter, performance reports and other social media content.
  9. Create and use digital media to support publicity, improving awareness, online and “in person” events and improving awareness of FCIN services.
  10. Monitor media alerts and relevant publications.

 

 

You will have

Prior education:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a communications or marketing discipline.
  • Evidence of qualification or training in internal / external communications and/or employee engagement.

 

Knowledge:

 

  • Extensive knowledge of the theory and delivery of internal / external communications, employee engagement, campaigns, digital and new media marketing and multimedia systems and tools.
  • Knowledge of the police or scientific profession would be an advantage.

 

Experience:

 

  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Employee engagement or communications role for a complex organisation.
  • Experience advising and influencing managers and colleagues.
  • Experience of using wide ranging internal communications and digital communications channels and practices to deliver organisational aims and objectives.
  • Project delivery experience and the ability to construct and deliver difficult messages.
  • Evidence of developing practical, innovative and creative communications solutions.
  • Commitment to all customers with recognition of the associated impacts.

 

Skills:

  • Self-motivation and personal drive.
  • A creative flair for communications and getting the best out of all communication channels.
  • Ability to take the initiative and suggest opportunities for improvements and change.
  • A high level of verbal and written communications skills.
  • A strong background in drafting/copywriting, with experience that demonstrates understanding and skills in communication techniques.
  • Ability to contextualise complex material into plain English.
  • Photography and video editing skills.
  • Collaboration with other departments to build external content and supporting internal messaging to internal and external customers with recognition of the associated external impacts.
  • Writing for electronic channels, such as SWAY, newsletters, posters and leaflets, as well as print publications.
  • Strong organisational and administration skills with an eye for detail.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
  • Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise and cope within a pressurised environment and work to deadlines.
  • Creative in approach and the ability to utilise a wide range of communication channels.
  • An eye for accuracy and detail.
  • A questioning and challenging approach with the provision of alternative ideas.
  • A professional, appropriate and responsive attitude.
