Role Purpose:
- To provide expert examination and full technical reports on any type of vehicle for the North Wales Police Force; other Police Forces and any other agencies as directed, to provide expert opinion and testimony and ensure the Force meets the criteria laid down in the Forensic Science Regulator Code (March 2023 v1)
- To support the Force with an expert vehicle examination service with the aim of assisting in securing an environment where the individual can use roads with confidence, free from death, injury, damage, fear or conflict.
The role requires applicants who can demonstrate (with evidence and by practical assessment) skills in the following areas:
- Educated to Level 4 City & Guilds, senior vehicle technician, or BTEC; HND/HNC and/or equivalent relevant qualification and/or proven relevant experience, to prove a comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge of motor vehicle technology and/or engineering, with a proven relevant work record. Have an excellent working knowledge of modern techniques, equipment and products.
- To have a proven ability to prepare technical reports, with experience in questioning and interpreting information to convey technical principals by assessment, if necessary, with excellent oral and written communication skills commensurate with the role.
- To hold a current full car driving licence and preferably also hold a full motor cycle licence. Candidates will be expected to obtain, with training if necessary their LGV [C+E] and PCV [D+E] driving licence and therefore must be capable of passing the requisite independent medical assessment as detailed in the advice contained within the DVLA ‘Medical Examination report for a Group 2 [lorry or bus] licence D4. - To be computer literate, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- To become a full member of The Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators, within 3 years of appointment.
- Become registered as a member of the Institute of the Motor Industry (MIMI), the Institute of Road Transport Engineers (MIRTE); The Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences and equivalent professional engineering organisations as required.
- To commit to undertaking the minimum amount of Continued Professional Development by work place and private study to conform to the Forensic Sciences Regulators Code or similar departmental requirements that result of changes to regulation or standards.
- The post holder will agree to undergo significant local training but also be prepared to attend residential training courses away from the area and to provide a commitment of 5 years due to the investment in development and training.
- Agree to undergo mandatory welfare screening due to the unpleasant and distressing nature of some incidents being investigated.
- Have a flexible approach to working weekends and evenings when called upon to do so attend incidents/conduct examinations as requested. The post-holder may be called upon to attend incidents and to conduct examinations in all parts of the Force Area other than their normal work base, as directed by the senior collision investigator/unit manager.
