Forensic Services Student Placement
The Forensic Services section of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit are looking for dynamic and high performing candidates to join the team on a Student Placement. This Student Placement is only open to students within the East Midlands currently studying a Forensic Science course.
EMSOU-Forensic Services forms part of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit and unites the assets and resources of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire forces to create a single collaborative regional unit.
What you’ll be doing:
- Upholding the Force’s Values of Performance, Innovation, Responsibility, Respect, Integrity, EMSOU Values and the Forensic Science Regulator Codes of Conduct.
- Booking exhibits in and out of the unit; checking the details on systems, paperwork and exhibits correspond. Dealing with any problems/queries that arise. Updating systems to ensure the continuity of the exhibit is maintained. Storing exhibits correctly.
- Providing a professional customer service, dealing with enquiries, providing advice, and responding to queries either by email, telephone or in person.
The must haves:
- You must be a student studying a Forensic Science course within the East Midlands region.
- The ability to work on own initiative and make decisions based upon policies and procedures.
- The ability to work under pressure, prioritise and plan workloads whilst following procedures accurately.
- The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Security Requirements
This post requires regular access to sensitive material and applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo enhanced security clearance before taking up the post. The material may be of sensitivity to the UK and may therefore be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances, dual nationals (of which one element is British) may be granted access.
However, if potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed, the post holder will not be permitted access the systems or material required for the role and will not therefore be able to perform their duties. For the purposes of safeguarding national security, applicants who do not hold or achieve the required levels of security clearance requirements cannot be offered the post.
