Constable to Sergeant Transfer on Promotion Process
Suffolk Constabulary has opportunities for suitably qualified Police Constables & Detective Constables seeking promotion to Sergeant. We have vacancies in several areas, and we are particularly interested to hear from qualified detectives. We are looking for motivated individuals who will be able to lead their teams, build successful relationships with partners and who will help continue to place us at the forefront of policing and provide an exceptional service to the people of Suffolk.
The NPPF is a four-step promotion process for police officers seeking promotion to the rank of sergeant or inspector.
Step 1 – achieving competence in current rank.
Step 2 – examination of law and procedure.
Step 3 – local selection process and matching to vacancies.
Step 4 – temporary promotion (12 months) and a work-based assessment leading to a professional qualification in police management.
Promotion is only attained once an officer has successfully completed all four steps.
To be eligible to apply to transfer on promotion you must be a substantive Constable who:
Has completed their probation period and been confirmed in post.
Holds OSPRE Part 1 and Part 2 or:
Hold a valid OSPRE Part 1 or LKE qualification, which has not expired.

Is not currently under a formal investigation for conduct.

Important Note: Suffolk Constabulary places a lot of emphasis on our PDR process and all our promotion opportunities must be supported by PDRs, evidencing that an officer is suitable for promotion and is also fully supported by their management team for their next step up. Therefore, if you are interested in applying, please ensure that you will be able to submit two recent PDRs as part of the process.
