Civil Disclosure Officer
Prospective officers and staff must be held to a higher standard of behaviour and accountability than members of the public, and that therefore their right to privacy can be fettered in certain circumstances. This is to ensure that members of the police are fully aware and accountable for the unique powers entrusted to them and the standards of professional behaviour they swear to uphold.
You will be working in The Civil Disclosure unit which is a friendly team responsible for collating and redacting information to make secure disclosures to the appropriate requester for a range of purposes.
Your role as a Civil Disclosure Officer requires you to manage your own workload on a daily basis under the line management of the Civil Disclosure Unit Manager. You will be a confident decision maker who is able to interrogate police systems whilst interpreting the relevant legislation and guidance when considering the disclosure of information.
You will be required to have contact with members of the public, other internal departments and external organisations whilst representing the force in a professional manner. Civil Disclosure Offices are expected to adopt a multi-functional approach to enable them to respond to various requests that are processed by the department.
You will put to good use your excellent IT skills, with includes the full range of MS Office as well as having the ability to learn new software packages as they arise. You will also need to demonstrate good communication skills and a high level of integrity and confidentiality.

Desirable:
- Previous experience in working for the police or other public sector body
- Experience of redacting third party information from various reports
- Knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018
- Previous experience of processing Subject Access Requests
- The ability to understand, interpret, apply and advise on relevant legislation accordingly.
Probationary Policy:
Under the Probation Policy, if you are currently in your probation period, you will not be permitted to apply for alternative police staff roles within the Force unless there are exceptional circumstances. In such cases, you would require the support of your line manager prior to applying for alternative roles, and if successful, your probationary period will start over.
Vetting: Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.
Medical: Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.
Hours: Both posts are full time (36.5hrs per week). The role is currently agile and the Civil Disclosure Unit follow the relevant policies in relation to agile working.
