SALARY RANGE from £53,688 (M2/41) to £58,455 (M2/45) + Market Rate Supplement of £3749 + LGPS Pension + Great Benefits Package
In this role, you will be a pivotal part of a new team focused on transforming the Sussex Police Estate, making it fit for the future by having the right estate, in the right locations, supporting our people, serve our communities.
The Estate Transformation programme is a unique opportunity to reset the built estate across Sussex, through optimising and investing in our buildings to meet modern Policing needs; responding to the challenges of agile and efficient working; getting to NETZERO carbon; and addressing our repair liabilities; towards making our estate a great place to work that enables operational Policing.
As an Senior Project Manager, you will be both leading capital projects yourself and a project officer in the delivery of projects forming part of the overall Estate Transformation programme. Projects will range in size and complexity from c£1m refurbishments through to large complex new Police bases of c£30m. You will also be dealing with complex disposals and acquisitions projects to rationalise our estate, all with a sharp focus on stakeholder engagement and ensuring we are supporting our operational Policing needs.
You will be an experienced project manager having delivered many large and complex projects through consultant teams and/or leading client-side teams. You will be an expert in leading complex design through all RIBA stages, leading complex stakeholder engagement and communications, whilst having a sharp focus on time, cost and risk, together with safety as most projects will require operational Policing to continue.
You will be skilled in leading projects with a focus on project monitoring, reporting and risk mitigation. Your technical knowledge from both study and experience will be invaluable in shaping scope and evaluating project viability, towards a defined option to be taken forward as the preferred option.
You will be an good communicator and great negotiator, able to lead both staff and consultants through complex projects with many challenges. Your outcomes will create spaces that are fit for the future model of Policing and create a greater feeling of collaboration and well being in the people we serve.
As a qualified professional (RICS/MCIOB/RIBA) your post degree experience (or suitable alternative experience) will provide an extensive knowledge and competence base to be able to work independently and with autonomy, whilst working with key staff.
Experience in the commercial and/or public sector (non housing) estate is essential to operate in the role, together with being conversant with standard forms of building contract (JCT/NEC); CDM expertise; and having been previously in a position of leading multiple projects.
The Estates Transformation team is newly formed, and this is a great opportunity shape the formation of systems, processes and standard ways of working within a small collaborative team.

Skills & Experience- Full current membership of RICS/RIBA/MCIOB
- Construction related degree to role (or alternative experience)
- Min. 10 years experience in project management
- Proven experience in commercial real estate/public sector (non housing)
- Experienced Construction Project Manager
- Conversant in the administration of JCT/NEC Construction Contracts
- Experienced in driving design teams through all RIBA stages
- Proven leader of technical teams and staff
- Strong decision maker and negotiator
- Skilled in managing multiple projects
- Excellent resource/task planner; time manager; prioritising
- Demonstrable knowledge of construction issues and experience in being able to make effective and informed decisions
- Demonstrable skills in project monitoring, reporting and stakeholder engagement
- Skilled in financial management and control of construction projects including budgeting and cash flow forecasting
