Transferee Police Constable - Crime Support Unit - (Force Surveillance Team)

Applications are invited from highly trained Police or Detective Constables for the post of North Yorkshire Police Surveillance Officer.

Based in one of four locations across the force, you will be part of a team of officers providing a dedicated mobile surveillance capability in the support of investigations into serious and organised crime. You will be trained to plan operations with investigating officers, and then deploy as a team in order to covertly gather intelligence on targeted criminals and/or gather evidence to prove their involvement in crime which will lead to their arrest and conviction.

The post holder will need to possess excellent communication skills, have a good knowledge of IT systems, work well both as an individual and as a team, be able to work under pressure, prioritising and working to timescales, and have the ability to make decisions in line with the requirements of the business.

We are looking for highly motivated and capable officers to help us deliver high standards of performance and a quality service.

Excellent communication and team working skills are essential.

Whilst the team’s base shift pattern is standard office hours, post holders will need to be flexible with short notice shift changes and shift extensions, with a requirement to work outside of normal shift hours and work in different locations.

Applications from officers with specialist surveillance skills are welcomed, however are not compulsory.

Applicants are required to be:

Substantive in the rank of Constable

Qualified Advanced Police Driver

Qualified Level 1 Surveillance Operative (Current Q1 accreditation)

Must be prepared to undergo Security Check (SC) clearance and enhanced vetting within NYP before taking up the post.

Candidates must currently be serving in a Home Office force.

Candidates who have a current unsatisfactory performance review and/or a performance action plan in place may be rejected during the initial eligibility screening process

Candidates must have no current findings of guilt in respect of any disciplinary actions or complaints

All mandatory training must be up to date. Surveillance is a challenging and specialist role. The hours are extremely unsociable and on occasions operatives are required to work long hours in order to achieve the operational objectives. Surveillance operatives are required to maintain their National Accreditation on a regular basis, and failure to do so will result in them being unable to work within the surveillance arena.

You will not be eligible to transfer to NYP if you have any convictions, cautions, reprimands and penalty notices (other than some driving penalty notices). You will not be eligible to apply if you have an existing CCJ or IVA outstanding against you. Applicants who have been registered bankrupt will not be considered. Failure to disclose any of the above will lead to your application being rejected.
