Digital Forensics Unit (DFU) Operations Supervisor

British Transport Police (BTP) are recruiting for a Digital Forensics Unit Operations Supervisor on a permanent, full time Contract. The role is paying £41,773.05 per annum, plus £3,177.65 London allowance, plus £3,957.00 Market Supplement and will be based at Ebury Bridge, London. This role offers a blended approach of home and office-working.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing. 

As a DFU Operations Supervisor you will be required to:

  • Establish, review, maintain and develop existing and new analytical procedures and methods for digital forensics and communicate any changes to staff.
  • Develop and maintain validation and verification processes to ensure that all hardware, software and methods used in the DFU and the frontline hubs are fit for purpose.
  • Develop, maintain and ensure compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) including adherence to Quality Procedures (QP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs).
  • Deliver continuous improvement of DFU and frontline digital forensic performance including the completion and corrective action from internal and external audits and feedback, problem solving, investigation of anomalies including root cause analysis for findings and trend analysis.

    The successful DFU Operations Supervisor will be required to evidence the following:

    Qualifications and Training:

  • Educated to degree level within Forensic Computing/Computer Science and/or relevant experience in the digital forensics.
  • Successful completion of recognized computer  forensics training such as XWays, Axiom , Griffeye and / or mobile device training such as MSAB XRY, Cellebrite or Oxygen Forensics.
  • Experience:

  • Experience of working within an ISO accredited environment or one that is working towards accreditation. 
  • Extensive experience and proficiency in the use of digital forensics software.
  • Supervising and leading small teams.
  • Skills:

  • Ability to continually and effectively absorb technical information, evaluate, and report on results to management.
  • A confident communicator in both verbal and written skills including report-writing with a personable, professional manner and the ability to interact and relate to all levels of staff.
  • Competent in the use of IT software including Office 365 including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.
  • Knowledge:

  • Sound working knowledge and understanding of BS EN ISO/IEC 17025 / 17020, ILAC G19 Modules in a Forensic Science Process and Forensic Science Regulator Code.
