An exciting opportunity has arisen, where applications are invited from Police Sergeants. This is an opportunity for the right candidate to join ERSOU’s Counter Terrorism Prevent Team. Prevent is part of the counter-terrorist strategy, CONTEST. Its aim is to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. This is achieved with the support of community and policing partners.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual, who is responsive to change, has an inquisitive mindset and possesses evidence of working to safeguard vulnerable people and develop the Eastern Region’s response to those who have been, or are at risk of radicalisation.

You will be supervising a motivated team of CT Prevent Case officers responsible for the safeguarding, and preventing of subject’s being drawn into terrorism. You will also work with partners to address vulnerabilities and work with subjects who have previously been radicalised. You will be responsible for presenting cases at meetings consisting of external partners.

The successful post holder will be part of a team made up of officers and staff from all six Forces that form the Eastern Region. Staff will consist of police officers and police staff.

The role of the Prevent Sergeant is wide-ranging and includes;

• Prevent activity and supervision of Prevent CT Case officers (CTCO) across the Eastern Region

• Manage all Prevent referrals using established policies and processes (including Channel) within the national timescale framework and utilising the dedicated Prevent systems to ensure actions, decisions and rationale are fully documented.

• Ensure that the Prevent Case Management Tracker (PCMT) is maintained as a live document and accurately recorded, through which an assessment of the management of threat, harm and risk can be locally and nationally audited.

• Ensure that Prevent referrals are correctly assessed by the Intelligence Management Unit, before they are allocated to a CTCO.

• Support CTCOs in their work with partners, in their delivery of safeguarding measures, including participation in social care strategy discussions/meetings and attendance at MAPPA panels.

• Provide support to institutions identified as vulnerable to radicalising influences to reduce the threat of extremism and radicalisation.

• Ensure that CTCO’s submit all relevant intelligence in relation to persons and institutions subject to Channel and other relevant nominal management actions.
