Salary: The starting salary is £35,643, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £32,715 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £37,200. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

In this vital role, you’ll be at the heart of our respected in-house legal service, where you’ll have the chance to handle cases right from start to finish, many of which are high profile and generate media interest. The Directorate of Legal Services (DLS) provides in-house legal services for the Met. Our paralegals provide high level legal support to lawyers whilst also conducting their own cases. As a paralegal you may be supporting the in-house lawyer teams in defending the Commissioner against a wide range of claims – everything from civil actions to employment tribunals; or working on inquests and public inquiries. You’ll help to prepare cases and carry out investigations, conduct research, gather evidence, interview witnesses and attend conferences and hearings. Our paralegals are case holders in a variety of areas which can include Disclosure, Safeguarding through protective measures and civil orders. You’ll handle each one from start to finish, investigating, instructing Counsel, giving advice and making decisions. As the face of the Met at court hearings and tribunals, you’ll do all you can to ensure cases are resolved fairly and professionally. To join us, you’ll need an interest in the law. You will be representing the Met in court, so a familiarity with court procedures will help but is not a requirement. We are also looking for applicants to have the ability to deal with people at all levels, using strong communication skills and it is essential that you are well organised and able to meet strict deadlines. Whilst our roles can be demanding and require work which needs to be delivered quickly, sometimes at short notice, we will work to ensure that people are able to achieve the right balance.
DLS’ main offices are based in Holborn; however, staff will regularly travel to other locations and courts across London. This post benefits from hybrid working in line with the Met Hybrid Working Policy (to work from the office at least three days a week with flexibility for the rest of the time, subject to operational requirements).
