This is an exciting time to be working for us. Policing Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland is a challenge like no other, and will bring new opportunities for even the most experienced officer.Expand your skills and build an exceptional career here with us, set against the backdrop of working in one of England's most exciting cities.
The size, diversity and importance of our organisation means that we have a huge range of potential career paths, spanning different areas of policing and specialisms. Working with you to understand your skill-set, we will post you based on your needs and ours.
We welcome applications from officers of all backgrounds and encourage anyone who has considered policing in an area that has a rich diversity of communities, all with their own policing needs, to get in touch. So that we can truly reflect the communities we serve, we are keen to hear from officers from black and minority ethnic communities, the LGBT+ community, female officers and those with additional language skills that are spoken by our local communities, such as Gujarati, Punjabi and Polish. At the current time, we’re especially interested to hear from police officers who are PIP2 or PIP3 qualified or qualified armed response vehicle PC’s.
Our selection process
To initially register your interest in joining Leicestershire Police, we ask that you complete our Skills Analysis Form and return it to HR Workforce & Succession Planning HRWorkforceSuccessionPlanning@leics.police.uk. This will allow us to understand a little more about you and how your expertise and experience could match available roles within our organisation.
Opportunities are limited, especially at higher ranks, however, we are keen to explore your interest in joining us, whether that is now or in the future. Officers with particular skills and expertise desired by Leicestershire Police will be prioritised.
When a suitable role is identified, you’ll then be invited to complete a full application form and at this stage we'll also check you meet our eligibility criteria – if you're a current serving officer who is meeting the day-to-day requirements of their role, you'll likely have no issue here.
If successful at this stage, you will be invited to attend an interview, which may include a presentation. We will provide you with full details of the interview process prior to your attendance.
Following an interview, we will guide you through anything you need to do and through our pre-employment process. Once all checks are passed, we will allocate you to our next available start date.
How you'll be trained
We arrange an induction for you, so you can get to know us. We'll arrange any relevant training courses for you to help you settle into your new position. You will likely notice a change in pace and demand through your training, but you will be able to call upon your own experience and the support of others around you through this period. There will be highly experienced and skilled officers around you who will always be there to help or assist.
Beyond your initial training, we aim to support the ongoing development of our officers. Our Team Leicestershire Academy have aligned their new Inclusive Leadership Development Programmes with the College of Policing National Framework to offer a comprehensive programme that supports the development of all of our officers and staff at each level.
The programme follows a ‘five stages of Leadership approach’ designed to provide you with the appropriate knowledge, understanding, skills and capabilities with a focus on continuous professional development throughout your career.
Upon transferring or re-joining to us, you can be confident you’ll be working with a professional team of people. We are committed to working together to ensure we deliver on our promises of making our diverse communities safer.
