Volunteers for Independent Advisory Groups (IAGs) and Independent Community Scrutiny Panels (ICSP) 1893120 , - Ref:1893120
What are Independent Advisory Groups (IAGs) and what will I do as a member?
Becoming an IAG member is fantastic opportunity to play a vital part in improving trust and confidence in GMP and building better relations with our community. You will become part of a team of local people working with your local policing team on a voluntary basis.
IAG members will be Critical Friends to the Force and work as genuine partners with the Police in helping to facilitate improvements in service delivery.
IAG members will represent the views of themselves as individuals using their own experiences and knowledge of their own communities.
IAG members will give their independent thoughts and views for the benefit of service delivery from a community perspective and identify options for the resolution of policing problems affecting communities.
IAGs will, through their advice and challenge, help to improve the legitimacy of GMP amongst the public.
What are Independent Community Scrutiny Panels (ICSP) and what will I do as a member?
Becoming an ICSP member is another fantastic opportunity to play a vital part in improving trust and confidence in GMP and building better relations with our community.
ICSP members will assess records of public interactions with the police and provide feedback and observations on how police powers were used, noting any concerns as necessary.
Members will review data and Body Worn Video, (BWV) of Use of Force slips to assess compliance and professional conduct on the application of police powers including stop and search and a range of use of force powers.
Represent the community at a local level and act as an advocate for accountability, trust and challenge in policing on behalf of local communities, particularly those who are minoritised and/or under-represented.
Provide constructive feedback and identify areas for improvement.
Volunteering your time will help GMP to understand and address any issues, see where and how we can improve as well as celebrate good practice too.
In return, all we ask is that you share your understanding with people in your community to show to demonstrate what we are doing to build trust, confidence and legitimacy across GMP.
