Firearms Licencing Administrator, North Wales Police

To provide administrative support to the relevant functions within the Justice Administration department.

Duties will include

  • Receive applications for the issue, renewal and variation of firearm certificates and explosive licences.
  • Recording change of addresses and request enquiries for enquiry officers to check new security arrangements.
  • The transfer of files both in and out of the force.
  • Weapon notifications – update computer of firearms purchased and sold. Arrange police enquiries in case of any discrepancies.
  • Check application forms
  • Receive/make telephone calls and deal with members of the public, police personnel in respect of matters concerning firearms and firearms law.
  • Dealing with correspondence received from members of the public, foreign forces, divisional/departmental personnel etc.
  • Inputting Data National Firearms Database (NFLMS)
  • Collecting and distributing of incoming/external mail.

MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR THE ROLE:

The role requires applicants who can demonstrate (with evidence) skills in the following areas: 

  • NVQ 3 Administration or equivalent level of qualification and/or relevant experience.
  • The use of Information Technology to an intermediate level of at least 35wpm and a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proven communication skills, commensurate with the requirements of the role
  • Clerical/Administrative experience to include filing, indexing, photocopying, typing.
  • Self-motivated and pro-active with the proven ability to prioritise and complete tasks to meet specific deadlines.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently using own initiative.
  • Ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines, responding positively under pressure.
