Starting salary - £31,551 rising to £46,044

This Detective entry route provides an exciting opportunity for people who are naturally curious and wants to put some of the worst criminals behind bars and make a real difference to Hertfordshire.

Our Detectives investigate the crimes that cause the most harm to our communities, like burglary, robbery, sexual offences and organised crime, and safeguard victims against harmful offenders.

The Police Constable Entry Programme - Detective (PCEP-D) is a new entry route for joining the police which provides an excellent opportunity to be employed as a Police Officer from day one and then becoming a fully operational Detective Constable by the end of the three-year training programme investigating a wide range of offences.

PCEP-D is focused on developing policing skills with key models and theories used routinely within a policing environment and then becoming a trained investigator (Detective).

PCEP-D is a three-year learning programme with a 21-week initial phase of classroom learning, followed by a 10-week tutorship, you will return to the classroom in year two for 9 weeks of further learning and year three will contain specialist rotations within specialist investigation teams. The training programme followed by assessments and exams will equip you to be a fully trained Detective Constable.

As an Officer, you will also attend Personal Safety Training and of course, there are a wide range of ICT systems to learn about.

Your knowledge and skills will be assessed throughout this period using a variety of techniques including exam, presentations, short essays and a full work-based occupational competency portfolio.

Our training teams understand that you may not yet know very much about policing. No assumptions are made, and each student officer is offered coaching to achieve the requirements in a very tailored way.

We also have lots of experience if you need any workplace adjustments – everyone is screened for dyslexia and given personal feedback as necessary.

Out on patrol, you will be coached and mentored by trained tutor constables who will support you to achieve a “safe and lawful” standard of practice. Once you achieve Independent Patrol Status, you will a fully deployable resource attending jobs by yourself.
