Traditionally, the conventional way to become a detective was to join the force as a police constable, but as crime changes, so does our recruitment process. Our PCEP DC Programme gives you the opportunity to join our talented and professional team of detectives, carrying out crime investigations across the county. The two year programme is designed to equip you with all the skills and training necessary to ensure that on completion you will be a highly competent detective constable.
For the first year of the programme you will be a uniformed police constable, working towards completion of all the uniformed elements of the occupational competency portfolio. At the beginning of the second year you will transition into the trainee detective role where you will undertake a yearlong placement in Crime Command. During this time you will complete the remainder of your PCEP programme, as well as obtaining specialist interview training and a comprehensive detective training package.
