ERSOU / ROCU - Constable/ Detective Constable Intelligence Officer – Sensitive Intelligence Unit

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Sensitive Intelligence Unit (SIU) as an Intelligence Officer.

The Sensitive Intelligence Unit is a fascinating and exciting place to work. The department is a unique function within Policing and across the Eastern Region, providing specialist intelligence support to ROCU and Force led operations as well as supporting partner agencies in their fight against serious and organised crime.

The SIU is dedicated to supporting operations tackling the highest harm and threat areas, across multiple crime types, exploiting and enhancing intelligence from multiple sensitive data sources in order to provide key stakeholders with the best opportunities to conduct enforcement, recover assets, seize criminal commodity and bring offenders to justice. We provide intelligence support to Crime In Action investigations (kidnap and extortion) as well as supporting the prevention, mitigation and management of Threats to Life (TTL) in order to safeguard vulnerable people.

Managing intelligence against tasked operations across the Eastern Region, you will gain first-hand knowledge of Serious and Organised Crime detection and disruption techniques and conduct intelligence collection against Organised Crime Groups (OCG’s) involved in firearms and drugs importation/supply, organised immigration crime/human trafficking, modern day slavery, child sexual exploitation, cyber enabled criminality and financial crime across the region. The work conducted by the SIU delivers significant operational results day in day out. The SIU can often be an exhilarating and fast-moving working environment where innovation, problem solving and the use of the latest technology and intelligence techniques are utilised to keep up with the ever-growing complexity and sophistication of serious organised crime.

You can expect a varied and fulfilling career within this business area, with no two days ever being quite the same. Your work will be fundamental in contributing to the impressive results that make the headlines and your role will be integral in the disruption of organised crime in the Eastern Region.

The role involves undertaking an 8-week rotational shift pattern as the SIU operates between the hours of 8am and 6pm. You will work a mix of 8am-4pm/8am-4.30pm/9.30-6pm shifts including an on- call weekend (Fri-Sun) and a weekday on-call (Mon-Thurs). Tackling serious and organised criminals requires applicants to be able to be flexible to meet operational demands (sometimes at short notice).

ERSOU supports principles of agile working and encourages staff from any force or location to apply for positions, regardless of where the main base for the team is. The SIU is a fixed location role as most SIU functions will need to be delivered at a designated / appropriately secure site. However, there will be occasions where some functions can be undertaken remotely, either at an ERSOU or local Police Force building, or from home (subject to suitability checks).

Your designated place of work will be in Hertfordshire. There will be an occasional requirement to travel within the eastern region for operational meetings and/or deployments. A work vehicle will be provided for this purpose.
