Transcription Specialist

Please note that this role is a Fixed Term /Secondment opportunity for 34 hours per week.

An opportunity has arisen within the Force’s Criminal Justice Transcription Team which is a demanding role but a rewarding one.

 

This role will see the successful candidate transcribe many different media types both audibly and visually, including suspect and victim interviews, 999 calls, bodyworn video footage etc.  The media is transcribed from a system called Express Scribe but is initially transcribed in Microsoft Word.  The recorded media will be transcribed from tape cassettes/DVDs and a digitally recorded system.

 

When applying for this role careful consideration should be given due to the material you will be transcribing as such interviews can be highly disturbing, graphic, frequent and extensive.  The media will include a vast variation to include sexual offences, offences against children, fatal road traffic incidents, grievous bodily harm and other major crime offences.

 

The successful candidate will need to have excellent audio typing skills, excellent communication and organisational skills with RSA II/equivalent qualification being desirable as speed and accuracy play a vital part of this role.  They will need to be proficient in the aforementioned skills and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

 

The post is part time  (34 hours per week).  Once fully trained, the post holder will be able to work remotely and at Melksham Police Station.
