Do you have excellent organisational skills, with a passion for ensuring compliance and public safety?

We are looking for our next Abnormal Loads Co-ordinator to join our traffic management team. You will be responsible for authorising Abnormal load movements within our force area, and the organisation of escorts teams when required, assessing and responding to a high number of applications to establish the requirements of each one.

You will have great communication skills in order to liaise with hauliers, Local Authorities and Highway Agency officials as appropriate. You will have the opportunity to use your existing skills to improve current process and supporting policy changes.

Your key responsibilities in this role will include;

  • Responding to requests and requirements of all abnormal load notifications received from hauliers or other routing companies ensuring they have given the required notice and all relevant information.
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with neighbouring Police Forces, external agencies, commercial companies and Local Authorities.
  • Liaison with the service users, and relevant partner agencies regarding the route of the loads, record appropriately and detail any special requirements in line with Government and Force policy.

Skills, experience and knowledge required;

  • Experience of effective partnership working
  • Excellent communications and negotiation skills, both verbally and written
  • Experience of inputting and retrieving data from a computerised database
  • A driving licence is desirable but not essential
  • It is advantageous to have knowledge of transportation and road networks within the Force area but this is not essential

Additional Information:

This is a part time role, working days between Monday – Friday. Working hours / days can be agreed with the successful candidate.

This is a blended / hybrid working role, therefore you will have the opportunity to work from home and also at Police Headquarters, Portishead. This will be agreed with you at offer stage.

If you are successful but not the highest scoring applicant you will be placed on a 6 month bank for any future vacancies that could arise.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.
