Greater Manchester Police has a fantastic opportunity on offer.
We are recruiting for qualified Authorised Firearms Officers; To be eligible Officers must be ARV role profile in their current force.
Please note that would be especially keen to attract officers who are qualified to SFO standard or have been qualified to SFO standard in their current forces with a view to being considered for future CTSFO pathways.
GMP Authorised Firearms Officers are split between two operational bases; these are Manchester International Airport and the SOCH building at Openshaw Complex. Both units support each other and work together to make Greater Manchester a safer place. Each base has five teams of AFO's providing 24 hour cover, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. As a GMP AFO you may be required to work between either location where necessary.
AFO's at both bases deploy as ARV (Armed response Vehicle) officers carrying an assortment of weaponry and portable ballistic equipment. AFO's are also trained to deliver trauma care to medical emergencies. Knowledge & understanding of the National Decision Making Model (NDM) and firearms legislation together with the ability to use that knowledge to good operational effect is essential.
AFO's from both bases assist other units within the Specialist Operations Branch with unarmed operations and will provide assistance to colleagues on district when not employed operationally.
As an Authorised Firearms Officer within GMP you will be required to:
Support the force in responding to identified threat, harm and risk.
Perform Force wide ARV duties and act as a visible deterrent to terrorism at Major events and at Manchester International Airport.
Provide specialist support to help strengthen GMP's dedicated neighbourhood policing teams as part of the Chief Constable's plan on a page
UNDERTAKEN WITHIN THE ROLE
Completion of the Transferee Induction Course.
Annual Mandatory First Aid and Officer Safety Training.
Must be ARV role profile in their current force.
OTHER
Must have passed your probationary period within current Police Force.
Pass required vetting status.
Warrant Status: Warranted Position.
Starting salary National Police Officer Scales which depends on current Force and salary.
