Transferee PC Investigator - Detainee Investigation Team (DIT)

We have an exciting opportunity for substantive PC’s to transfer into Avon & Somerset and join our Detainee Investigations Team (DIT)

As one of the highest performing teams within our organisation DIT prides itself on achieving the best outcomes for victims, by seeking a range of court disposals, and out of court disposals, for those detainees that are arrested each day.

This role will involve dealing with investigations and detainees and preparing prosecution files in relation to summary and either way offences, allowing the arresting officer to resume effective patrol.

Below are listed some of the DIT PC Role tasks:

  • To complete enquiries in the course of the investigation of a criminal offence for which a person is detained in custody.  This will include obtaining additional statements, documentation, CCTV and mobile phone evidence, field testing of drug seizures and other enquiries as necessary.
  • To carry out arresting/transporting officer duties as part of the booking in procedure when there are delays in custody, allowing the arresting/transporting officer to return to patrol duties.
  • To progress investigations to completion, tasking post bail and additional enquiries to BCU staff where necessary, whilst retaining responsibility for the overall investigation.
  • To manage detained property in the appropriate manner ensuring appropriate packaging, storage and documentation.
  • To prepare prosecution files including upgrade of files to not guilty and committal standard, assisting the Criminal Justice Department with file preparation when required.
  • To attend court and give evidence as required.
  • Assist with ID procedures, including escorting suspects and witnesses for capture/viewing and taking statements as required.
  • To be able to travel between and assist at other custody centres as required.
  • To interview and process detainees whilst complying with PACE and other relevant legislation.
  • To maintain the Crime Management and other force systems expeditiously and to an appropriate standard, reporting intelligence gained during the course of the investigation.
  • To act as a liaison for victims and witnesses of crime, conducting regular victim updates in accordance with the Victim's Code of Practice.
