An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Scientific Support Unit within North Wales Police as a Forensic Quality Officer.

What does the Forensic Quality Officer role entail?

Reporting to the Quality Technical Managers, in this role you’ll support all Quality Managers in maintaining and developing the Quality Management System within the Support Scientific Support Unit to ensure a high-quality forensic service is delivered which is in compliance with ISO accreditation requirements and the Forensic Science Regulator’s Code of Practice.

Other duties will include, but not be limited to;

  • Develop a knowledge and understanding of the different Scientific Support Unit functions including policies, practices and procedures to ensure compliance with the relevant quality standards.
  • Support the Quality Technical Managers in the maintenance of the audit schedule and inspections of the Scientific Support Unit.
  • As directed by the Quality Technical Managers, provide the Quality Manager and Scientific Support Manager with up-to-date information on the Quality Management System including Proficiency Testing results; Customer Feedback; Corrective; Preventive and Improvement actions. 
  • Quality assurance and administrative support to Technical Managers and Heads of Departments for seeking and maintaining ISO accreditation and ensuring compliance with Forensic Science Regulator’s Code of Practice.
  • Maintain and update the Quality Management System records to ensure it contains relevant versions of processes, procedures and references to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • To utilise databases for operational and quality assurance administration.

What will I need to be considered for the Forensic Quality Officer role?

  • HNC, or equivalent level of qualification, in a relevant subject and/or proven relevant work experience.
  • Experience of working in a support role within a busy environment dealing with confidential information, preferably in a quality management environment. Experience of inputting, updating and maintaining computerised filing/recording systems.
  • Experience of producing accurate written information with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise resources effectively in order to deliver a quality service.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and have an ability to produce clear and concise documents.
  • To be able to maintain a good level of personal motivation with the ability to work under own initiative or as part of a team and be able to cope well under pressure.
  • Proven ability to organise and prioritise the workload to meet given deadlines and objectives.
  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Has a flexible approach to meet the needs of the post.
  • Commit to undertaking relevant accredited Quality Management training courses.

This role is temporary until approximately June 2026.
