Are you looking to re-join or transfer as a special constable or are you a former officer who has resigned or retired from the police service but wishes to volunteer as a Special Constable?

Eligibility:

Re-joiners and former officers who have resigned from a police force and are seeking to return after a break in service of less than five years.

Transferees are special constables who wish to transfer from one force to another without a break in service.

Recruitment process:

Application, familiarisation event, Interview, fitness test, medical review and biometric testing will be conducted along with Professional Standards checks and security vetting, we will also request references.

Your previous service record will be requested and may be discussed at interview along with any training needs.  The interview panel will normally consist of representatives from HR, the Special Constabulary and Training.

On successful completion of the recruitment checks we will look to place you on the next available course.

Officers will normally be posted within a 15 mile journey of their home location, although we will also take into account previous skills and experience when making postings decisions. Where possible those requesting a specific posting will be allocated that patrol base as long as it is within a reasonable travelling distance from home. We hope to make it easy and convenient for officers to report for duty and to post you in a way that reflects the value we place on your support.
