Greater Manchester Police is one of the largest police forces in the country with a dedicated team of more than 12,000 individuals, responsible for protecting approximately 2.8 million people across an area of almost 500 square miles.
Legal Services provides a critical support service for officers and staff at all levels in GMP. The Branch is made up of circa 50 legally qualified and non-qualified staff split across six units, including four dedicated legal units that specialise in Operational Policing, Civil Litigation, Employment and Misconduct, and Public and Regulatory.
Members of our teams provide legal advice across the above areas and are key partners in ensuring GMP re-establishes itself as a leading police force who fight and reduce crime, keeps people safe and cares for victims. This is an exciting opportunity to join the fast-paced operational policing unit within GMP Legal Services. As a paralegal you will manage your own varied and interesting caseload effectively and proactively, assisting in the provision of safeguarding support to the communities of Greater Manchester.
If you are able to demonstrate strong communication skills, the ability to consider and prepare statements and consider evidence for applications with minimum supervision and are also studying towards a legal qualification or have such a qualification, we would welcome your application.

To be eligible for appointment as a member of police staff, you must be a British citizen or a citizen of a country that is a member of the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland. Commonwealth citizens and foreign nationals are also eligible but only if they are resident in the UK free of restrictions.

Greater Manchester Police have been informed of potential personal tax implications for members of the 1987 Police Pension Scheme, who retire and take a pension between the ages of 50 and 54 inclusive and then take up employment as a Police Staff member. Members of the police pension scheme whose age is between 50 and 54 who are re-employed as a Police Staff member have to meet certain conditions to keep their PPA and to protect against personal tax liability charges on any payments paid before the age of 55. One of those conditions is that a break of at least 1 month is required where the re-employment is materially different. However, if the role is not deemed to be materially different then a 6 month break is required.
