Senior Criminal Intelligence Analyst - South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU)
The South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) is looking for a Senior Criminal Intelligence Analyst keen to progress their careers as part of our Sensitive Intelligence Unit.
Intelligence is at the core of the work you will do providing your analytical expertise to Senior Investigating Officers across the South West Region. You will be part of a team that is responsible for handling some of the most sensitive data and intelligence provided to the South West Region to battle serious and organised crime. You will be line managed by the SIU Manager and in turn work alongside Detective Sergeants where you all have direct line management responsibility for a highly trained team of analysts and Sensitive Intelligence Development Officers. Knowledge of both IPA 2016 and RIPA 2000 is essential as the majority of work you conduct will be authorised under these Acts. There is an expectation that you will represent the South West Region on various National working groups and act as a subject matter expert in the area of information and data exploitation.
SWROCU is a collaboration of police officers and police staff from the five South West regional forces. We’re part of a national network of nine ROCUs covering England and Wales.
We have more than 20 capabilities that staff and officers work in to Pursue offenders, Protect and Prepare individuals and organisations, and Prevent people from engaging in serious and organised crime.
Our capabilities are here to advise, to assist, or to fully adopt investigations.
We work with local forces and national partners to target and disrupt criminals posing the greatest risk of Serious and Organised Criminality (SOC). This includes offenders involved in cyber threats, economic crime, drug conspiracies, modern slavery and human trafficking, and child sexual abuse and exploitation.

Skills, experience and qualifications required
Qualification:
- Be qualified to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent relevant experience
- The post holder will be required to have and maintain IPP Accreditation equivalent relevant experience
- Hold a full current driving licence or be able to travel around the force / region area using alternative transport
Essential:
- Proven experience of intelligence analysis processes and/or intelligence led approaches
- Experience working in an advisory/consultancy capacity - able to demonstrate professional credibility with colleagues and stakeholders
- Excellent IT skills including extensive experience using all common Microsoft packages including Excel and specific analytical software programmes
- Proven experience of quantitative and qualitative analysis including statistical analysis
- Proven experience of structured analytical techniques, inference development and hypothesis testing
- Ability to act on own initiative, to own and manage issues with minimal supervision
- Demonstrable ability to make clear, timely and justifiable decisions based on an informed rationale.
- Excellent interpersonal skills - including verbal and written communication, presentation skills to communicate findings and appropriately influence decision makers
- Experience of managing/supervising staff (welfare, training, performance ect).
Desirable
- Knowledge of relevant investigative legislation (e.g. IPA, CPIA, GDPR).
- Previous analytical experience and / or of working within a law enforcement environment
- Previous experience of Court and of presenting evidential analytical products
- Experience of evidential analysis products

Vetting and safeguarding
This post is subject to a higher security clearance at MV and SC – Management Vetting and Security Clearance Level.
Dependent on which capability this role sits within, there may be a requirement for Developed Vetting (DV) clearance to be obtained within the first 12 months.
To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a five-year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last five years.
