Forensic Support Officer
The purpose of this role is to provide support to help deliver an effective and efficient forensic service for the criminal justice system.
Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to;
- Prepare solutions, reagents and standards often to urgent deadlines, and in response to specific requirements, to support the casework of the unit.
- Receive, acknowledge and register relevant samples, and maintain relevant databases to ensure sample continuity, including DNA samples from visitors.
- Update relevant databases with failed results and report findings to the relevant Manager, to support ongoing investigations, (e.g. environmental monitoring records).
- Monitor, order and maintain laboratory stocks and solutions, and ensure levels of cleanliness are in line with SPA standards, to ensure service delivery is not interrupted (e.g. arranging laundry of lab coats and cleaning of laboratory areas, chemical and sharps disposals). Includes chemical disposal and clinical waste management.
- Responsible for production movement and storage – ensuring that once productions are no longer required they are removed from department, to ensure efficient use of storage and integrity of evidence.
