An opportunity has arisen for a DC/PC role within the Intelligence Development Team within ERSOU-CTP. The position is based at a covert location within Bedfordshire. Given the nature of the CT effort there may be a requirement to travel throughout the Eastern Region based on operational needs.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated person looking to develop their career, and work within the Counter Terrorism environment. 

The main responsibilities of the role will be to gather and develop CT intelligence from around the Eastern region and liaise with other agencies regarding information on terrorism and security issues. 

  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they are competent in the substantive rank and be fully fit without restrictions and be up to date with unarmed defence tactic training.
  • Applicants must be an authorised police driver (any level) with a full UK driving licence.
  • Constables within the IDT work an eight week shift pattern which enables coverage between 7am and 7pm. Working one weekend in eight. A variation of the shift pattern is attached.
  • The post holder will be required to join the ERSOU CTP on-call rota in due course. 

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria) and Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria) or Development Vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined. 

This post is designated a ‘reserved post’ under the Civil Service Nationality Rules and is open only to UK Nationals. Anyone holding dual nationality can make an application but may be required to relinquish non-British nationality if successful (and any entitlement you may have to a foreign nationality) as a condition of your confirmation of appointment with CTP. If you’re already married to, or cohabiting with, a person who isn’t a British citizen, you may still be eligible for employment at the discretion of the department. You should note however, that marriage to, or cohabitation with, a person who isn’t a British citizen after appointment may, in some circumstances, result in the withdrawal of security clearance and subsequent transfer to another department, or (if this is not possible or the officer does not wish to transfer) dismissal. Each case will be considered on its merits, considering the ties between the person involved and the United Kingdom. 

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate competence in their current role and be able to demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills. The successful candidate must also be able to drive as this role involves travel throughout the Eastern region. 

You will be expected to provide written evidence around the following competencies and also written evidence covering the minimum entry requirements from the role profile:

As this is a PDF document this will need to be wet signed. We will accept an audit trail of emails from your line manager and Head of Department if a wet signature is not achievable.

Essex Officers must inform HR Resource Planning (hr.resource.planning@kent.essex.pnn.police.uk) at the earliest opportunity of your intention to apply for this secondment.   Every Officer application form must be signed by your Ch Supt or police staff equivalent and sent to HR Resource Planning (hr.resource.planning@kent.essex.pnn.police.uk) no later than 5 working days prior to closing date, unless exceptional circumstances.  This is required so that Chief Officer approval can be obtained for your application to progress, which will be managed by HR Resource Planning.  These steps must be completed prior to submission to the recruiting organisation.  If your application for an opportunity is not approved prior to submission to the recruiting organisation you may not be supported for release to the role, should you be successful.
