Essex Police Community Special Constable

By navigating to this page, you have indicated you want to apply for the role of Community Special Constable.  Please indicate on your application the Parish or Town Council you want to work with from the below list. Please note, these are currently the ONLY Parish/Town Councils participating in the scheme. Do not choose an area that is not on this list.

Would you like to give back to YOUR Local community?

Community Special Constables are something new, something different, something that delivers visible policing at a really local level with Parish and Town Councils.

Joining as a Community Special Constable is a great way to volunteer your time to serve the area in which YOU live.

We already have Specials working on local policing and community policing teams and across a number of specialist areas, but Community Special Constables are something new, something different, something that delivers visible policing at a really local level.

A Community Special Constable dedicates their voluntary service to the area that matters most to them - their town or parish. In return the local council will pay the allowances and expenses of their officers and they’ll have a say in the issues that their local Specials deal with.

As a Special you’ll have full policing powers to support regular officers, undertake patrols, support calls for assistance from the public and investigate reports of crime. Volunteering as a Special is a great way to give back to your local community, build new relationships and develop new skills.

This role is voluntary and we require our Special Constables to offer a minimum of 16 hours per month in your chosen Parish/Town Council area. However, please note that you can choose when you work those hours and can volunteer more if you’d like.

The Parish and Town Councils currently taking part in the scheme are;

Alresford, Billericay, Birchanger, Black Notley, Boreham, Bradwell, Brightlingsea, Broomfied, Buckhurst Hill, Burnham on Crouch, Canvey Island, Chigwell, Colne Engaine, Danbury, Dedham, Elsenham, Feering, Galleywood, Great Baddow, Great Burstead and South Green, Great Dunmow, Great Wakering, Great Waltham, Gosfield, Halstead, Hatfield Heath, Hatfield Peverel, Hawkwell, Herongate and Ingrave, Hockley, Hullbridge, Ingatestone and Fryerning, Kelvedon, Lambourne, Leigh-on-Sea, Littel Baddow, Little Clacton, Little Yeldham, Maldon, Mayland, Myland, Newport, Ongar, Ramsey & Parkeston, Rayleigh, Rayne, Rettendon, Rochford, Roydon, Runwell, South Hanningfield, Springfield, Stanford Rivers, Stansted Mountfitchet, Stanway, Stebbing, Stock, Thaxted, Tiptree, Weeley, West Bergholt, West Hanningfield, West Mersea, Wickford, Witham, Wivenhoe, Woodham Ferrers and Bicknacre, Writtle.
