- Child Internet Exploitation Investigator Part Time
Applications are currently invited for one part time position within the Public Protection Department’s Child Internet Exploitation Team.
The vacancy is a Headquarter Post within the CIET office currently based at the Devizes Borough Police Station. The primary role will be to conduct investigations into individuals using the internet to make and distribute indecent images of children and associated exploitation of children. It will not be uncommon for investigations of this nature to expose suspects who are also engaged in sexual activity with children in the online or real world as well as identifying prohibited and extreme pornographic imagery offences. The role also includes elements of, multi-agency child safeguarding partnership working and completion of crime files relating to serious offences committed against children.
Applicants should be to be minimum PIP 1 investigation accredited or equivalent with the expectation that following appointment, applicants are enrolled onto and complete the ICIDP and PIP 2 investigation accreditation. Successful applicants will be required to undertake appropriate software training in order to conduct proactive online investigations to identify suspects distributing and possessing child sexual abuse material as well as being able to triage media devices either at scene or within the CIET office for the purpose of identifying illegal content. They will also be required to undertake appropriate Indecent Images of Children categorizing/grade training and enhanced Police Vetting (RV) level 2 in order to use the Child Abuse Identification Database (CAID) as part of their role.
Successful applicants will have good investigative skills, knowledge of child safeguarding partnership working, be a highly motivated individual, who has the ability to work both as part of a team and on their own initiative. The role is currently Monday-Friday but will include occasional early starts, evening, and weekend working where operational necessity demands. This investigative role is demanding given the exposure you will have to highly sensitive and disturbing material. The applicants will be subject to an Occupational Health assessment prior to the commencement of the role given the nature of this type of specialist work.
