PS/443/C SC4-5 HOLMES Indexer with Action Management
The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit (MCU) is part of the Joint Protective Services Directorate with responsibility for the investigation of major crime across the Tri-Force area. The MCU is based from two hubs: in the South at Hertfordshire Police Headquarters, Welwyn Garden City and in the North at Cambridgeshire Police Headquarters, Hinchingbrooke, Huntingdon. In addition to investigating homicide, the MCU has responsibility for a variety of investigations including attempted murder, stranger rape, crimes in action and child sexual exploitation.
A vacancy has arisen in the Northern hub for an Indexer with Action Management. Reporting to the Senior Indexer, you will provide effective specialist support to the investigation of major crime or the operation of a casualty bureau by creating and searching records of data in the various indices of HOLMES.
Working within the Specialist Investigation Team, you will research, index and create indices, actions and sequence of events in accordance with the Document Manager’s instructions and will comply with the Major Incident Rooms Standardised Administration Procedures (MIRSAP). You will be expected to take a pro-active role in identifying investigative opportunities by independently identifying vital links in the evidence and information available and taking appropriate action.
A good standard of written and spoken English is required as you will be liaising with Senior Investigation Officers, the Intelligence Unit and Enquiry Teams.
This is a permanent full-time Cambridgeshire post. If the successful candidate is not a Cambs employee they will be required to resign from their home force and take up new employment with Cambs following successful vetting.
The post holder will be required on occasion to travel to locations within Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire. The post is subject to a shift pattern with a combination of day and late shifts up to 7pm and working one weekend in eight.
The successful candidate will be required to attend the HOLMES Indexers Course (unless they have previous MIR experience of either version 15 or 16 of HOLMES). At present this is provided out of Force and is 4 weeks in duration.
Because of the training costs associated with this role, it is subject to a Return on Investment criteria. Applications for a different MCU role within the candidate’s home force is not likely to be supported unless in exceptional circumstances.
