Be part of a team that’s making a difference to London by tackling vehicle crime

Vehicle Recovery Examination Services (VRES) plays a key part in the Met’s drive to tackle vehicle crime on the streets of London. Every day, VRES removes, recovers, restores and disposes of all kinds of vehicles, from two wheel bikes all the way up to HGVs. We now need Pound Officers to join our dedicated team. If you’re organised and good with people, we’ll provide all the training you need.

VRES deals with vehicles that are involved in collisions, those involved in serious and organised crime that require forensic examinations and those that are seized under Police powers for having no insurance or being unlicensed. We support frontline policing and operates 24/7/365. With the number of vehicles we process growing steadily, the role of Pound Officers is more important than ever.

Join us and your main task will be to process all vehicles that enter your site. You’ll see that Health and Safety procedures are followed and that the correct documentation has been completed. You’ll also deal with members of the public, face to face, on the telephone or by email. These people will include victims of crime and those that have had their vehicles seized for breaches of the Road Traffic Act. For many victims of crime, this is their first experience of dealing with the Police and it’s vital that each person receives a first-class service.

You will need to be both mentally and physically fit as this role involves working 12-hour shifts, four days on, four days off and working in all weather conditions both inside and outside.

You do not need to have done this type of work before; instead life skills are more important than specific qualifications or working experience. You will need to have good communication skills, sound record keeping, common sense and resilience. Above all, you will have the desire and drive to support the fight against crime and to provide a first class service to the people of London.

Being a Pound Officer is not easy, but you will be rewarded with an immensely satisfying job that is never dull, as well as the opportunity to make a real difference to the community and London itself.

We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.
