Chief Superintendent Promotion Process 2025

We are keen to promote talented Superintendents from varied backgrounds to the rank of Chief Superintendent, bringing breadth of experience and strengthening our capacity to serve the public and tackle future challenges.

Please note that applicants will be measured across the competencies and values set out in the Competency Value Framework throughout the promotion process.

Competency and values framework (CVF) | College of Policing

It is a requirement of the rank that you are applying for that, in addition to your role, you undertake operational command responsibilities in line with our organisational requirements. Such command roles will include Strategic Firearms Command, Gold POPS Command and Multi Agency Gold Incident Command which includes 24/7 on-call duties and ongoing professional accreditation requirements. To undertake your command duties, it will be necessary for you to complete external residential courses, which will be discussed with you and arranged following your appointment. Any responsibility you are given will be subject of an IPR objective.

The Process

  4. Applications will be considered by a shortlisting panel to determine who will proceed to assessment. The date of shortlisting results will be communicated shortly.
  5. Those who successfully pass the shortlisting will be required to undertake an interview and assessment. The dates of these will be communicated shortly.
  6. An appropriate level of feedback will be provided at each stage of the process.

General Information

All officers applying for this promotion board must be available between the 9th and 20th March 2026 for the SFC course at College of Policing Ryton.

In all cases the Chief Constable reserves the right to appoint an individual to any police officer post considering welfare issues, succession planning, redeployments and development needs.

Successful applicants working flexible or part-time hours may have to re-negotiate their flexible working agreement with their new manager in accordance with Police Regulations and Force Policy.

Every effort should also be made to reduce TOIL accrued in excess of 50 hours before commencing new role.
