Job Purpose
An exciting opportunity has become available to join the National Investigation Team (NIT), a newly developed team within the NPoCC Strategic Intelligence and Briefing unit (SIB).
The successful candidate will have a proven track record and experience in supporting pro-active and reactive investigations relating to criminality associated to protest, with a view to disrupt and arrest offenders involved in aggravated activism. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team comprising of Detectives (ranging from a DCI to DC’s) and an Intelligence Analyst.
The NIT is a newly developed team within the NPoCC Strategic Intelligence and Briefing unit (SIB).
The outbreaks of violence seen during the summer disorder of 2024 played a significant role in undermining public confidence within our communities, exacerbating pre-existing societal grievances, and the spreading of extremist narratives. These events amplified the gap in the capability of policing to maximise opportunities to investigate offenders beyond boundaries of existing forces and regions. There is currently no national capability dedicated to these investigations.
NPoCC SIB is at the forefront for creating this capability for policing, to better understand the complexities, set up, and challenges of key actors and drivers that have the ability to influence front line criminal protest
The successful candidate will work alongside wider stakeholders to support the development and management of key investigations by undertaking analytical activity associated to criminality within protest. They will support and deliver reactive and pro-active operations, to disrupt and arrest offenders involved in aggravated protest. As a key part of the NIT you will support the team to connect, deliver, and standardise investigative approaches across UK policing. When national (investigations spanning multiple force and regional areas) cases arise, the NIT will lead investigations into cases of national significance, working with forces affected. The NIT will not replace local investigations that will continue to be managed locally.
The role holder will undertake research activity to gather and develop information and intelligence to influence the direction of the wider team.
The team will focus on a range of thematic areas including environmentalism, anti-government and cultural nationalism to identify and mitigate threat, harm and risk.
Vetting
This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post
