Police Community Support Officer (PCSO)

You’re a role model, a listener, a councillor and a source of vital support for officers. You’re all this and more. You’re a PCSO.

When you’re a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO), you’re more than a uniform. You’re the person out on the streets, talking to local people and helping however you can. You support officers, prevent crime, manage traffic and build the kind of relationships that residents value deeply. You’re there to understand local issues. You’re there to protect London.

Police Community Support Officers have an important place in our team. By supporting regular officers, they give them more opportunity to use their specialist skills. It’s a role that could see you working in one of two areas: either out in the community or assisting our Transport teams. In both roles, you’ll be meeting the public, gathering intelligence and tackling routine duties. Of course, your responsibilities could extend far beyond this, depending on where you’re needed – to policing special events and responding to major incidents, to keeping roads running smoothly. Above all, you’ll provide a visible police presence and be a source of knowledge, reassurance and authority.

Right now, we’re looking for PCSOs across London. Although we can’t guarantee where you’ll be placed, we’ll endeavour to balance your preferences against operational requirements. You’ll also have the choice of full-time or part-time roles. Shifts usually last 9 to 10 hours – after all, we are a 24/7 service. You’ll work day, evening and night shifts, depending on your location: 36 hours per week in total.

Have you got what it takes to join us? That will depend on your people skills. This role is all about talking to the public, building bridges and winning the trust of communities. Whatever your background, you’ll bring a valuable life skills and experience. That means you’ll be resourceful, diplomatic, motivated and in touch with the real world. You care about others and want to see them safe and well.

With excellent training and great benefits, this is a highly rewarding role. Join us and see the impact you can make as a PCSO.

Completed applications must be submitted by Sunday 1st October.
