About the Role:

As a PCSO, you will be a key member of our Community Policing Teams, often referred to as the eyes and ears of the Police. What Will I Be Doing?

No two days are the same as a PCSO. This demanding yet highly rewarding role offers a variety of responsibilities, including:

  • Patrolling the streets of Wiltshire, providing a visible and reassuring uniformed presence.
  • Attending local events and engaging with the community.
  • Assisting in resolving community challenges.
  • Providing advice to victims of crime and vulnerable community members.
  • Collaborating with Police Constables, Special Constables, and other partner organisations to build and maintain positive relationships.
  • Keeping Wiltshire safe while you learn on the job through a fully funded academic study programme.

What Do I Need?

  • Effective communication skills across diverse situations and people.
  • Ability to handle difficult and confrontational situations positively.
  • A passion for helping others and being a team player.
  • A Level 2 qualification in English Language and Maths at GCSE grade C or above (grades 4-9) before joining.
  • A Level 3 qualification equivalent to 64 UCAS points. (If you do not hold a Level 3 qualification, please contact the Recruitment Team for further discussion.)

Are You Eligible?

  • You must have a FULL UK driving license.
  • You must be aged 18 or older.
  • You must be a British citizen, an EC/EEA national, or a Commonwealth citizen or foreign national with no restrictions on your stay in the UK.
  • You need a minimum of three years of continuous residential history in the UK to meet vetting requirements.
  • You must hold the required qualifications as described above for your desired entry route.

Additional Information:

Salary and Allowances:

  • Starting salary for a PCSO is £25,668, increasing to £26,868 with two annual increments.
  • Shift pattern includes days, evenings, and weekends with allowances for shift work.
  • Weekend Working Enhancement: £3,138.78 per annum.
  • Night Shift Enhancement: Calculated at a rate of 14% based on your shift pattern.

PCSO Apprenticeship:

  • Receive on-the-job training and a fully funded academic study programme in partnership with the University of South Wales.
  • Awarded a Level 4 Accredited Higher Education Certificate in Community Policing Practice upon completion.

Initial Training:

  • 16-week initial training period incorporating academic study.
  • Training timetable typically Monday-Friday, 09:00-17:00.
  • No leave can be taken during the first 16 weeks except within scheduled breaks.
